I know, because I’ve been there.
I spent more than a decade controlling and restricting my eating to force my body to look a certain way. I could never maintain it. I’d eventually crash and binge, feeling shameful and more out of control than ever before. I longed for a sustainable truly healthy approach. But how?
It was hard to break the cycle because of long ingrained habits of emotional eating. I didn’t know what to replace it with. I didn’t know what else to turn to.
Stuck in a stressful job, feeling incompetent and misunderstood by my co-workers, I turned to food.
For lunch I’d grab a bag of potato chips and Little Debbie cakes and shove them mindlessly into my mouth while sitting at my desk.
Every night I’d go home feeling so depressed and alone.
Eventually a new job and social life improved my situation, but I was caught up in trying to undo the damage I’d done. I’d skip out on dinners with friends to stay away from the “bad” food.
My friends said I was a miserable to be around.
It was then it struck me that I couldn’t keep going on this way.
Overtime I learned a lot about a little something called intuitive eating, which essentially means listening to your body’s wisdom to make food choices, rather than what the outside world tells you to do.
Thanks to these new practices, today I love food! I enjoy it! I don’t stress about eating, I don’t turn to it for comfort as much, and if I do, I don’t feel shameful about it. I don’t try to make up for my poor choices. I learn from it, and move on.
Today my relationship with food is peaceful, and I want to show you how yours can be the same.
