Dance it Out!

Uplift mind body & spirit in this dance-based movement practice!

What to expect in a Dance it Out! class:

  • Easy-to-follow moves while encouraging exploration and self-expression to honor our bodies’ preferences
  • A good workout without over-exhausting us!
  • A varied playlist inspiring playfulness and creativity – you’ll find such rhythms as salsa, tribal drums, reggae, classic pop hits, bachata, instrumentals, and more!
  • A cooldown that ends with a few moments of stillness and silence
  • Space for introspection and journal writing, because when we move our bodies, we move our emotions!
  • A short share circle (optional) at the end to foster connections with our fellow dancers
  • We dance barefoot. If that doesn’t work for you, please bring non street shoes to change into to protect the floors (per regulations at Greensboro Cultural Center)

Does this sound like an experience you’d like to be a part of? Come dance with us!

The backstory

I never considered myself a dancer. Aside from salsa lessons and a few belly dancing classes, I have no formal dance training. One day I took a class and my instructor, who has turned into a beloved friend, said to me, “If you dance, you’re a dancer!” Since then, I have owned that label!

All through my 30s I loved to put on music and dance in the privacy of my own home. At some point, I connected dance with improved mental health. It seemed to allow stuck emotions to flow so I could process and release them, even when I wasn’t aware they were there. Music and movement are powerful forces! Now dance is a regular part of my movement and wellness routine.

I created Dance it Out! because I wanted a class that not only provided a great movement practice but also allowed for reflection and connection. Whenever I’ve attended other movement classes, I would leave feeling that we had just completed something profound and I longed for a few moments to converse with classmates about our experiences. Most classes don’t give us that space.

Dance it Out! ends with journal writing to integrate our practice, as well as an optional share circle with fellow classmates.

Together we move, we dance, we bond.
