Here’s what to do when you’re stressed about money

I want to be completely transparent with you about this.

There are times I stress about money.

There are times I look to others who appear more successful than me and I wish I could be where they are, have the life they have.

My relationship with money isn’t perfect.

But then again none of my relationships are perfect.
They’re all a work in progress, and maybe yours are too.

I’m completely okay with that though because perfection isn’t the goal.

Do I have disagreements with my boyfriend? Yes, of course.
Do I get stressed out over them sometimes? Yep.

Well it’s no different when it comes to my relationship with money. Relationships are about understanding, listening, and learning with each other.

Every challenge comes with an opportunity to grow and adapt, so that next time we have a disagreement or we feel stressed, we can respond in a healthier way.

Without challenges, we’d be stagnant.

In my relationship with my boyfriend, I used to freak out every time we’d have a big disagreement. I’d feel certain this was the end, and I’d have to move out and find a new place to live. It was the worst.

Then after a day or two, things would smooth over and we’d be back in our normal happy place.

After awhile I noticed this was a cycle. I started to change my reaction to our disagreements, knowing it wasn’t the end. Knowing we’d get through it.

Now when it happens, I let myself get upset and process my emotions, but I don’t freak out about breaking up and moving out. It saves me a lot of stress and allows me to focus on what triggered the fight, and how I can improve how I show up in this relationship so we both get our needs met.

In my relationship with money I have “disagreements” too, AKA chances to listen, learn, and adapt.

I accept that I will never be completely rid of disagreements, stress, fears, or worries. What matters is how I perceive them and how I respond.

When I feel stressed over seeing more successful people, I remind myself that they were once where I am too. Where I am now is necessary to get to where I want to go. It’s a sacred journey and we all move at our own pace. It’s not a race, and no one’s competing.

Besides, if we could just snap our fingers and always get exactly what we want right now, wouldn’t it lose its luster? Wouldn’t we lose the appreciation?

I also remind myself to check back into the present moment and enjoy what I already have. I feel like a queen every time I sit outside in my gazebo, admiring the beautiful purple-pink flowers growing on the tree branches, in awe of the vibrantly blue sky, the gentle breeze on my skin, and the little Florida lizards sharing the space with me.

I’m grateful to money for enabling me to purchase this gazebo and clean up my yard to make it such a tranquil place.
